Traditional Award Plaques
Many
organizations give award plaques to honor people
deserving recognition for their accomplishments.
They may be given for winning a competition,
superior service, charitable contributions,
volunteering time or resources, for completing a
course of study, and many other reasons.
Typically, award plaques are personalized with
the person’s name, date and reason for the
award. Sometimes the level of the award is given
if more than one award was presented.
Award plaques are made of many different
materials. A simple plaque might be a paper
certificate with elegant lettering. A more
elaborate plaque might have wooden backing with
a metal front plate on which the award
information appears. Plaques can even be made
solely of wood or stone with inscription. They
are all attractively designed to be to be
displayed on the recipient's wall.
Award trophies are given to athletes and sports
teams to recognize their success. Many award
trophies are named after famous athletes or
coaches who were success in a specific sport;
for example, football's Lombardi Trophy and
Heisman Trophy.
Award trophies are given to individual athletes
at every level of achievement, from Little
League and high school to college and
professional team members. When they are given
to individual athletes, their name and date are
engraved on the trophy and they get to take it
home. Team trophies are usually kept on display
at the team’s office. They have the date and the
name of the winning team engraved on them.
Depending on the size and type of trophy, the
names of all the players on the winning team may
also be included. Some trophies are ongoing;
each year the names of the winners are added to
the list.
Some trophies remain with the event and are
given to the latest winner only long enough for
a photo to be taken. Major athletic events like
the Kentucky Derby have the names of current
winners engraved on them. The result is a long,
complete list of victors. Visitors to these
events can see the trophies and review the
complete history of the event.
Award plaques are also great for recognizing a
person or team that successfully complete a
major project and events such as golf
competitions organized to benefit a charity.
Regardless of the reason for giving award
plaques, recipients are bound to feel grateful
for being appreciated. Customizable award
plaques can be bought at trophy stores, sporting
goods stores, and online.
