Techniques to Help Improve Employee Performance
All great
managers appear to know the secret to improving
staff performance, but what they know is no
secret at all.
In fact, everything you need to know about
improving staff productivity can be expressed in
a few simple techniques. These techniques are
sure to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
These five techniques are not concerned with
gains, losses, the profit margin, tax
deductions, liabilities, or assets. Instead,
they are related to the human factors of
management.
A price cannot be put on the factors that drive
staff performance. Most people stay with a
company because of the satisfaction they are
able to derive from a rewarding career and
balanced lifestyle. Great managers recognize
this fact and work to improve satisfaction with
these simple tips.
- Encouraging Motivation. Every
staff member is an individual and is
uniquely motivated. It’s important to
discover the motivator for each employee and
give him or her opportunities that encourage
optimal performance.
- Having a Vision and Setting Goals.
A vision is a statement about what you want
to do. Goals are steps toward creating your
vision. Without a vision, you don’t know
where you’re going, and consequently it is
impossible to set goals. Create a vision of
how you want your business to be now and how
you want it to evolve in the future.
Communicate your vision to staff members and
set goals with them. Being a part of the
company and helping set goals will improve
their performance.
- Acknowledging and Praising Employees.
Expressing appreciation is the one great
motivator for all employees. You can’t go
wrong by noticing and acknowledging what an
employee does right. Take advantage of every
opportunity to praise employees’ positive
efforts.
- Providing Guidance with Feedback.
Feedback is essential for growth. It’s
important to give objective but construction
feedback on job performance. Giving timely,
respectful feedback will let your employees
know they are valued.
- Being Available. A supervisor who
is a good manager is always available as a
resource to employees to answer their
questions and respond to their concerns. You
want staff members to feel comfortable about
approaching you. They shouldn’t be afraid
that they are imposing on your time or that
you won’t listen. Instead, they should be
able to rely on you for guidance and learn
from you as a model of superior performance.
There is no one secret to improving employee
performance. If you implement these five
techniques into employee management, you’ll
begin seeing results right away. Your staff and
company deserve a management style that will
help them and your company flourish.
